NGT asks Dhami govt to stop illegal mining in Ganga

The National Green Tribunal(NGL) has ordered Uttarakhand government to stop building material mining on the banks of river Ganga in Rishikesh following reports of illegal mining in the guise of desilting riverbed following monsoon floods.

NGT fines state one crore rupee for failing to demolish tourist lodge

Time and again, the tribunal has reminded the state government that the Sundarbans fall under ecologically fragile and sensitive zone declared as biosphere hotspot by the United Nations and of the necessity to protect this precious region in the interest of environment and progeny. Godkhali tourist lodge remaining intact displays obstinacy of the state and its violation of the order of the tribunal, the NGT observed.

Meanwhile, the state does not have a mining plan and is working to get one with the technical support of the Central Mine Planning and Design Institute and the Mineral Exploration Corporation Limited.
