Terming Sidhu’s resignation as sheer drama, Captain Amarinder said the move suggested that his former cabinet colleague was preparing the ground to quit the Congress and join hands with someone another party in the run-up to the state Assembly polls.
Sidhu announced his resignation on his Twitter handle in just an hour after Channi announced an allocation of portfolios to his Cabinet colleagues.
While underlining that Amarinder had made very serious allegations against Sidhu by calling him anti-national, the Congress high command needs to come clean on the matter
Former minister Bikram Singh Majithia said it was shocking that when parliamentary affairs minister Brahm Mohindra moved a resolution calling for adjournment of the House sine die, the SAD legislators called for a division of votes.
In a statement, Prof. Bhim Singh hoped that in future Sidhu would not allow his advisors to make such statements that are against national interest.
Addressing a Press conference, SAD leader Bikram Singh Majithia said “It’s shocking to see that on a day when India was celebrating its Independence Day, statements against the nation were being issued from the Punjab Congress office”.
The new leadership team, led by Navjot Singh Sidhu, had called on the Chief Minister and submitted a letter listing out the issues needing urgent settlement.
Sources say Amarinder Singh in his letter had said, that he will not contest under Navjot Singh Sidhu if he is elevated to the top organizational post of the state.
The Congress is mulling an idea of appointing a Dalit and a Hindu as working presidents.
