Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu said here on Friday that the state government was committed to strengthening the rural economy through sustainable and farmer-friendly policies.

The National Mission on Natural Farming (NMNF) will train 18.75 lakh farmers in practising natural farming who, in turn, will reach out to one crore farmers. At a two-day national workshop on natural farming conducted by the Union Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare at Gujarat Natural Farming Science University, Halol, Gujarat on Thursday.
Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, while chairing a review meeting of the agriculture department here on Friday, said that the state government was committed to promote natural farming and all possible efforts were being made in this direction.He directed the department to map farmers cultivating wheat and maize through natural farming methods across the state.
These encouraging efforts have been initiated by SRIJAN, a voluntary organization, as a part of a wider project called BIWAL for promoting sustainable development in the villages of Bundelkhand region. BIWAL’s model combining water conservation and natural farming has given a newfound strength to many farmers and rural communities.
At the inauguration of a two-day PM Kisan Sammelan at the Indian Agricultural Research Institute, Modi gave a new slogan of Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan, Jai Vigyan and Jai Anusandhan.
The minister added that the state government is motivating and training the farmers to adopt Subhash Palekar Natural Farming (SPNF) technique through Prakritik Kheti Khushhal Kisan Yojana (PK3Y) for the last four years.
The studies showed that 15 types of companion crops are being grown in apple orchards through natural farming. As also, the overall disease incidence in apple crops has reduced.
