BJP has staunchly opposed the nomination of Nawab Malik, the NCP (Ajit Pawar) candidate from Mankhurd Shivaji Nagar.
A total of 53 MLAs of the NCP were elected in the October 2019 Assembly elections, which threw up a hung House.

NCP suffered a split on Sunday with Ajit Pawar joining the Eknath Shinde-BJP government along with eight other MLAs.
