The Odisha Government has decided to undertake a phased intervention of National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, which envisages reforms in the education system for the 21st century, from the 2025-26 academic year, said officials.
Underlining the importance of women education, he said, "We cannot dream of a Viksit Bharat without women and without education."
The state cabinet, which met today, under the leadership of chief minister Mamata Banerjee at the state secretariat, Nabanna, approved in-principle the state education policy, which was vetted by an expert committee.
India's third proper education policy since Independence, the New National Education Policy saw the light of day on 29 July 2020 with the commitment of major changes in the education system of the country. When the policy was announced in the midst of the pandemic to aim at bringing about much needed transformational changes in the country's education system with a global perspective, skillbased learning seemed to have been prioritised with the use of modern technology.

Appreciating the efforts of the Education Ministry and Dr Kasturirangan and his team, who prepared the policy, the President mentioned that the Policy has been prepared after extensive consultation with 2.5 lakh gram panchayats, more than 12,500 local bodies and about 675 districts generating more than two lakh suggestions thereby reflecting a ground-level understanding.
PM Modi told that within the past week, the Education Ministry has received over 15 lakh suggestions on its implementation.
'The policy will give a new direction to social and economic life of 21st century India,' PM said.
He observed that about 40 percent of the winners of the National Awards were women and appreciated the role women have played as educators.
'The policy fails to address the need of improving the public education system and focuses on private education.'
