An apex court bench, headed by Chief Justice N.V. Ramana on Monday, witnessed an unusual scenario in the courtroom, as a lawyer insisted that his case should become the lead petition among a batch of petitions challenging the extension given to present Enforcement Directorate chief Sanjay Kumar Mishra.
The CJI advocated that formulation of laws and policies was not enough but they need to be implemented properly.
The Chief Justice of India, N.V. Ramana, said on Saturday that several international dispute resolution institutions are being established across India, to provide the commercial world with a speedy and effective resolution of disputes.
The top court said it needs strict compliance with the measures issued by the Centre, the top court, and the air quality management commission.
"The issue of pendency is multifaceted in nature. I hope the government takes into consideration the suggestions received during these two days and resolves the prevailing issues", said Justice Ramana.
"I want to take the liberty to express my concern about certain speculations and reports in the media. You are all aware we need to appoint judges to this court. The process is ongoing. Meetings will be held and decisions will be taken", CJI Ramana.
The bench was hearing a PIL of 2016 filed by lawyer and BJP leader Ashwini Upadhyay on fast-tracking of criminal trials against MP and MLAs besides seeking a life ban on convicted politicians from contesting polls.
Justice Kant cautioned the husband not to renege on the promise to treat his wife with respect and asked him to withdraw all cases against his wife, including the divorce petition.
Vice President M. Venkaiah Naidu called for innovative and collaborative efforts to protect and rejuvenate Indian native languages.
