In a tragic incident of honour killing, a woman police constable, Nagamoni, was brutally murdered by her brother in Telangana for marrying a man from the Scheduled Caste (SC) community.
At least five people, including three women, all nomadic tribes from Maharashtra, were killed and four others injured as a group of assailants brutally hacked them to death in Odisha’s Sundargarh district, police said on Wednesday.
The deceased, Dr Rudrasen Gupta (BHMS), resided in the Krishna Nagar locality of Rewa, police said.
The police rounded up three suspects, including the woman's husband and his two accomplices, in connection with the case.
The incident took place late Friday night in Magrahat and the deceased has been identified as Moimur Gharami.
"Apparently it seems there were more than one murderer and they were known to Chaki. Initial investigation shows that the murder is closely related to the property and we are trying to find out whether there was any dispute regarding the property," a senior officer of the homicide squad said.
The deceased have been identified as Prema Devi, 45, and her daughter Tanu Patel, 18, who were attacked with sharp weapons while they were sleeping.
Chandpasha (50), his wife Sabera (42) and Sabera's brother Khaleel (40) were killed, while Chandpasha's sons Fahad (20) and Samad (24) were injured.
The lawyer couple Gattu Vaman Rao and P V Nagamani were waylaid and hacked to death by unidentified assailants on a road in broad daylight. The incident took place on Wednesday in Kalvacherla in Peddapalli district. The lawyer couple was returning to Hyderabad after attending a hearing in a local court in Mathani.
