The one-day track and field meet will mark the return of Neeraj Chopra in action after the Indian suffered a muscle strain during training last month.
The long jump finals along with other remaining summit clashes in the National Inter-State Senior Athletics Championships 2023 will be held on Monday.
Talking about his friend Jeswin Aldrin, he said: “Jeswin had an incredible jump of 8.42m, which not only set the tone for Indian jumpers but also for all the jumpers in the world. This healthy competition will of course help all the other jumpers rise and improve our own performances."
The 23-year-old, who holds the Indian national record in the men's long jump with an 8.36m effort at the Federation Cup earlier this year, got off to a slow start in Monaco.
This is India's second athletics medal at Birmingham 2022, following Tejaswin Shankar's bronze in the high jump on Wednesday.
Competing with 11 others in the final at the Hayward Field, the 23-year-old Sreeshankar began with 7.96-metre jump, which made him the leader after the opening series.
He became the first Indian male long jumper to achieve this feat. The World Athletics championship Oregon has begun today.
