The Labour Ministry has announced a compensation of Rs 10 lakh for the next of kin of the dead and between Rs 1,00,000-Rs 2,00,000 for the minor and seriously injured.
A majority of the eight fatalities occurred due to suffocation while one person is stated to have jumped from the third floor of the hospital to his death in a state of panic.
According to unconfirmed reports, the fire was caused by a suspected short-circuit on the upper floors of the five-storied building which is situated in the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) area, which is the industrial hub of the north-western suburb.
