The Ministry of Defence (MoD) has finalized a contract with Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL) for the supply of Medium-Range Surface-to-Air Missiles (MRSAM) for the Indian Navy, valued at approximately Rs 2,960 crore. The agreement was signed here on Thursday, with Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh overseeing the proceedings.
The MRSAM (IAF) is an advanced network centric combat Air Defence System developed jointly by Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) in collaboration with the Indian industry comprising private and public sectors including MSMEs.
The firing was undertaken on Western Seaboard wherein missiles of two ships were controlled by one ship to intercept different aerial targets at extended ranges.
