Mr India trilogy was announced by Ali Abbas Zafar on February 18.
Released in 1987, Mr India featured Anil Kapoor and late Sridevi in the lead roles.
Mr India was one of the first sci-fi films of Indian cinema.
Unconfirmed reports have stated that Ranveer Singh and Shah Rukh Khan might come together for the project.
Boney Kapoor also shared a heartfelt post for the legend on his official Twitter handle apart from announcing the news about the statue.
The film gala begins in Delhi on July 18 and will travel through different cities. The festival will culminate on September 29 in Mumbai.
Remembering actor Amrish Puri on his 87th birth anniversary on Saturday, Anupam said: "Amrish Puriji was a really good friend of mine. It feels really sad to talk about your friends who are no more in this world. He was a remarkable actor."
Amrish Puri was born in Punjab on this day in 1932.
