The proposal was considered totally contrary to the principles of sustainable development, as its implementation would have meant demolition of more than 2,000 inhabited government houses and the cutting down of thousands of trees, most of which are many years old.
The state cabinet formally approved the decision during its meeting presided over by Chief Minister Dr Mohan Yadav here on Tuesday. Dr Yadav had earlier made an announcement in this regard.
Both incidents occurred in the Betul district of the state in a span of three days
