The Transport Department in joint coordination with police personnel has decided to relaunch a drive against Motor Vehicle Act violators from Thursday.
The validity has been extended for the documents whose validity expires between February 1, 2020 and June 30, 2020.
In a joint statement, Leader of Opposition (LoP), Harpal Singh Cheema and deputy leader of Opposition, Sarabjeet Kaur Manuke said that hike in the fines won’t help stop traffic violations on the roads, saying the traffic police was not equipped with the adequate infrastructure.
The Odd-Even rule, which is returning to the national capital for the third time, will continue till November 15 and will be applicable in Delhi from 8 am to 8 pm.
The DMRC will conduct additional 61 additional trips and a total of 5,100 trips through 294 trains during the scheme.
The Odd-Even vehicle scheme will be implemented from November 4-15 to tackle the rising menace of air pollution around the time of Diwali.
Delhi Police has issued over 3,900 challans to traffic rule violators after the amended motor vehicles act came into effect on September 1.
The Odd-Even scheme was first implemented by the Arvind Kejriwal-led Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government on 1 January 2016 as an anti-pollution measure for the first time in India’s history.
“We are not implementing the Act. Our officials feel that the recent amendments that have been made are quite harsh and it will overburden us if it is implemented. Moreover, we have successfully taken up a special drive ~ Safe Drive Save Life ~ to check accidents and rash driving,” said Miss Banerjee.
An official spokesperson of the Haryana Transport Department said that the decision was taken following directions from Punjab and Haryana High Court to ensure compliance of the Motor Vehicle Act, 1988.
