As the dust settles on the 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar series, with Australia hammering India 3-1 to eventually reclaim the trophy after a decade’s wait, cricket experts from either side lamented the absence of star quick Mohammed Shami from the crucial tour with Ravi Shastri and Ricky Ponting pointing out that the pacer’s presence might have made a difference.

After his outstanding return to competitive cricket during the last round of Ranji Trophy matches, star India pacer Mohammed Shami will now spearhead Bengal’s bowling attack in the forthcoming Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Trophy.
Shami has been one of the key players for India. Having started off under former skipper MS Dhoni, the pacer is now the leader of the pack under Virat Kohli.
Since making his debut, Mohammed Shami has played 49 Test matches, 77 ODIs and 11 T20Is where he has taken 180, 144 and 12 wickets respectively.
Had everything gone according to plan, Shami would have been busy featuring in the cash-rich Indian Premier League (IPL).
For Shami, seam and swing are the priorities. And if both are right, he focuses on keeping his speed above 140kph.
The 29-year-old Mohammed Shami was also seen recalling the hat-trick he had taken against Afghanistan in the 2019 ICC World Cup in England.
