The Ministry of Coal said on Wednesday that the total coal production from captive and commercial mines for the financial year 2024-25 has reached 167.36 million tonnes (MT) as of February 2025.
During the event, the Ministry will execute Coal Mine Development and Production Agreements (CMDPAs) and Coal Block Development and Production Agreements (CBDPAs) for nine coal mines.
The Ministry of Coal has invited comments/feedback from the public as part of the public consultation exercise on the draft amendments proposed in the Coal Bearing Areas (Acquisition and Development) Amendment Bill, 2024.
The Ministry of Coal has achieved a notable upswing in overall coal production during October 2024, reaching 84.45 million tonnes (MT). The production surpassed the 78.57 MT of the corresponding month last year, registering an increase of 7.48 per cent.
Ministry of Coal had launched the 10th round of auctions on June 21, 2024, and offered 67 coal mines for commercial mining.
As of July 19, the Ministry of Coal has achieved production at 294.20 MT, reflecting a robust growth rate of 10.70% compared to the same period last year, which was 265.77 MT.
This first ever groundbreaking initiative aims to revolutionise the coal industry by using in-situ coal gasification to convert it into valuable gases such as methane, hydrogen, carbon monoxide, and carbon dioxide.
This proactive initiative aims to secure uninterrupted power for citizens nationwide during this peak demand period, the Ministry of Coal said.
The overall annual coal production has surged from 565.77 MT in FY 2013-14 to 893.19 MT in FY 2022-23, witnessing a massive growth of 57.87 per cent over the last ten years.
Singh said no matter how big and developed a nation is, if it is not self-reliant for energy needs, then there will be hurdles to its development.
