Lithuania’s parliament voted unanimously last Tuesday to consider leaving Interpol if the Russian candidate had won the vote.
China’s public security ministry confirmed that Meng “is suspected of violating the law” but did not specify the kind of violation.
Interpol demanded an official "clarification" from China on the whereabouts of its missing police chief Saturday, after reports said he was detained for questioning on arrival in his homeland.
The 64-year-old president of the international law enforcement agency, who is a Chinese, was last seen leaving Interpol’s headquarters in Lyon bound for China.
