A day after the Delhi Assembly elections culminated in voting, the Delhi Police, on Thursday, released the data on the violations of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC). According to the data, a total of 1,098 cases of violation of MCC were registered during the electoral process and over Rs 11.70 crore of cash was seized.
With the campaigning for the Delhi assembly elections drawing to a close on Monday the Delhi Police registered as many as 1,049 cases of Model Code of Conduct (MCC) violations and seized over Rs 11 crore in cash to ensure free and fair elections.
In view of the upcoming assembly elections in Delhi, police have registered 863 cases of Model Code of Conduct (MCC) and seized over 9.6 crore cash, it said on Thursday.
The Delhi Police have registered 244 cases for violation of Model Code of Conduct (MCC) guidelines, 152 cases for keeping unlicensed arms, 25,000 liters of liquor valued at more than Rs 75 lakh, and seized drugs worth more than Rs 14 crore, as per the police data between January 7 to 16 that was released on Friday.
The poll panel on Saturday wrote to BJP president J P Nadda and Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge seeking their comments over the matter by 1 pm on Monday.
In a separate letter issued to Nadda and Kharge, the poll panel recalled its 22nd May advisory directing the BJP, Congress and their star campaigners to refrain from making any statement which is prohibited in Clause (1) of general conduct of MCC.
State election commission said both the police and the Excise Department seized 10,358 liters of illicit liquor amounting to Rs 14.12 lakh.
