Mayor Mahesh Kumar Khichi, on Sunday, accused the BJP government of shielding culprits behind the building collapse in northeast Delhi’s Mustafabad through the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) Commissioner.
Mayor Mahesh Kumar on Saturday ordered the MCD Commissioner to take strict action against the officials following a building collapse in Mustafabad area of North East Delhi.
Going stricter with measures to curb illegal constrictions, the Kolkata Municipal Corporation has now decided to take action against the building department officials or even sub-assistant engineers found inactive against such complaints highlighted during the Talk to Mayor programme.
The Leader of the Opposition in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi and former Mayor, Sardar Raja Iqbal Singh, on Tuesday criticised the New Year feast organised by the Mayor, calling it a wasteful expenditure and an act of insensitivity.
The Mayor ordered an immediate cleanup of all vulnerable points in the city.
"Given the severity of this issue and the fact that this might be happening in many wards across Delhi, Commissioner (MCD) is directed to share his responses to the following questions within two days, i.e. by 5pm on Thursday, 26th September," Mayor's communication to the MCD official read.
He said the people lost their lives due to waterlogging, electric shocks, and building collapse for which the civic authorities are directly responsible. Therefore, the mayor should resign from his post taking moral responsibility, he added.
In addition to the perils of old dilapidated structures, the danger posed by old mobile towers has given the Kolkata Municipal Corporation cause to look for solutions.
