Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) Mayor Shelly Oberoi on Saturday said the civic body is taking all possible measures to curb air pollution in the city.
According to the Mayor, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi every year undertakes various measures to curb pollution, and this time it has formed 372 surveillance teams of 1,295 officers, working day and night to monitor the situation.
Delhi Mayor Shelly Oberoi convened a high-level meeting to review the ongoing special cleanliness drive and address key challenges in managing Construction and Demolition (C&D) waste across the city.
She has also called for a detailed report on the budget allocations for road projects in the financial year 2024- 25.
The election to the standing committee of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) was postponed as the House meeting was adjourned by Mayor Shelly Oberoi, until October 5 on Thursday following the chaos over the decision to ban mobile phones in the House before the beginning of the elections.
"Given the severity of this issue and the fact that this might be happening in many wards across Delhi, Commissioner (MCD) is directed to share his responses to the following questions within two days, i.e. by 5pm on Thursday, 26th September," Mayor's communication to the MCD official read.
He said the people lost their lives due to waterlogging, electric shocks, and building collapse for which the civic authorities are directly responsible. Therefore, the mayor should resign from his post taking moral responsibility, he added.
In addition to the perils of old dilapidated structures, the danger posed by old mobile towers has given the Kolkata Municipal Corporation cause to look for solutions.
Upset over the sanitary conditions of the West Zone during an inspection on Thursday, Delhi Mayor Shelly Oberoi warned the waste management agency of stern action if corrective steps were not taken within five days.
