The first Minister of Education in the Indian government, Maulana Abul Kalam Azad was a scholar, educationist and freedom fighter who played an instrumental role in the development of the education system of independent India.
It was Maulana Azad who established the All India Council for Secondary Education Commission in 1952 for reforming the structure of the secondary schools.
"I have no hesitation in saying that in the heart of Abul Kalam Azad, there was no 'Bharat aur Bhartiyata' (India and Indianness)," the minister said while addressing a function in Ballia.
