The decision was taken in the wake of the situation in areas like Kopar Khairne, which witnessed violence during the Maratha quota agitation on Wednesday.
Today was the second phase of the state-wide shutdown call by the Maratha Kranti Morcha. The first phase was held spontaneously on Tuesday in most districts of northern, western and Marathwada regions of Maharashtra.
The latest phase of the Maratha protests have seen at least three deaths and a number of suicide attempts. Instead of reservation, the community now seeks OBC status and wants the Maharashtra government to decisively act on their demand
