To fulfil the cherished aspirations of the people of the State of Goa, the Chief Minister of Goa had conveyed to the Centre a unanimous decision of the state Cabinet to name the airport ‘Manohar International Airport.
The renaming as Manohar Parrikar Institute for Defence Studies and Analyses (MP-IDSA) by the defence minister, who is the President of the Institute, follows the unanimous decision by the general body earlier this year to effect the change in the memory of Parrikar.
After four and a half years in political oblivion, however, Pacheco, a former seamster who specialised in stitching wedding gowns, is now tailoring an electoral comeback with the help of the Congress party, which he joined earlier this month.
The Congress' demand came two days after the Goa Lokayukta recommended an inquiry by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) against Parrikar's successor and BJP leader Laxmikant Parsekar into the matter.
Parrikar, also a former Defence Minister, is suffering from advanced pancreatic cancer which was diagnosed in February last year.
Gandhi who on Tuesday paid a personal visit to Parrikar had said that the Goa chief minister had nothing to do with the new Rafale deal that was finalized by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The Congress and Rahul Gandhi have been pressing for a JPC probe in the Rafale deal.
Manohar Parrikar was the defence minister when the deal for 36 Rafale jets was signed between India and France.
The unexpected meeting comes days after the Congress claimed that Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar has the files related to the Dassault Rafale deal in his bedroom.
