Sisodia, the AAP nominee from Jangpura Assembly constituency, made the statement after inaugurating his election office in Hari Nagar Ashram.
The Supreme Court on Wednesday allowed a plea filed by senior Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader and former Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia seeking relaxation of the bail condition requiring him to report to the Investigating Officer semi-weekly.
Former deputy chief minister has been moved to Jangpura constituency and the AAP has fielded educationist Awadh Ojha, who recently joined the party from the said seat. Sisodia has represented this constituency thrice.
Sisodia has been shifted to the Jangpura constituency, while Patparganj, his previous stronghold, has been assigned to Awadh Ojha.
The Supreme Court on Friday said that senior AAP leader and former Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia cannot be kept behind bars for an unlimited period of time in the hope of a speedy completion of trial in the excise policy case.
Sisodia, who is in jail in connection with a case he claims is fabricated, obtained court permission to utilise his MLA fund for this purpose. Responding to a pressing need expressed by residents for better access to drinking water, Sisodia instructed his team to address this issue.
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is investigating Sisodia’s alleged criminal conspiracy angle in the money-laundering dimension being probed by the ED.
Justice B R Gavai, heading a bench also comprising Justice Sanjay Karol and Justice K V Viswanathan, issued the notice seeking reply from the CBI and the ED as court was told that Sisodia is in incarceration for the last 16 months.
Soon after Manish Sisodia’s plea for the revival of his bail plea was called, Justice Sanjiv Khanna heading the bench said that his brother Judge Justice Sanjay Kumar will not like to hear the matter for personal reasons.
