Senior BJP leader and Member of Parliament Jyotirmoy Singh Mahato, a member of the Parliamentary Committee for home affairs, has written today to West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee, urging her to increase the monthly assistance under the Lakshmir Bhandar scheme to Rs 2,000.

“As there are 21 lakh ration dealers across the state, a total of 42 lakh staff would be engaged. Each such staff would be paid a salary of Rs 10,000 a month of which Rs 5,000 would be paid by the state government and the remaining 50 per cent by the respective ration dealer. This would cost an additional Rs 160 crore to our state exchequer,”
There is another department that Mamata Banerjee will have to negotiate. Subrata Mukherjee, who was additionally holding the responsibility of consumer affairs department along with self-help group and self-employment department, after the illness of Sadhan Pandey is also lying vacant.
