BJP MP urges CM to scale up Lakshmir Bhandar money for women

Senior BJP leader and Member of Parliament Jyotirmoy Singh Mahato, a member of the Parliamentary Committee for home affairs, has written today to West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee, urging her to increase the monthly assistance under the Lakshmir Bhandar scheme to Rs 2,000.

The government has spent more than Rs 800 crore on the project and going by the figure the finance department estimates that the state government will have to cough up another Rs 5600 crore which might in turn lead to a staggering figure in a full financial year.

Mamata schedule to arrive in Delhi ahead of Parliament session

The visit coincides with the start of Parliament's winter session. Banerjee is expected to meet with other like-minded party leaders in order to form an alliance with the opposition in Parliament since the Centre has been on the defensive since farm laws were repealed.
