In a moral victory for the Uddhav Thackeray-led faction of the Shiv Sena, the Supreme Court on Thursday faulted former Maharashtra Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari for asking Mr Thackeray, then the Chief Minister, to face a floor test when there was no objective material before him to draw the conclusion that Mr Thackeray had lost the confidence of the House.
The Supreme Court will hear all the petitions arising from Shiv Sena squabble involving former chief minister Uddhav Thackeray and current Chief Minister Eknath Shinde factions in its entirety.
The bench observed that the question of reference to 2016 Nabam Rebia judgement to a larger bench can't be decided in "abstract manner, isolated and divorced from facts of the case". Detailed order will be uploaded later in the day.
The Sena side is left with around 17 MLAs and top party leaders claim "more than half the rebels in Guwahati are in touch" with them.
