According to information, on Friday alone over 2.5 million devotees have taken dip in the Sangam marking the begining of the event amid a mammoth security arrangement.
Anand Giri, the founder of Ganga Sena Shivir, was arrested last year following the death of his guru Mahant Narendra Giri, who was found dead in his ashram on September 20.
The Magh Mela begins on January 1 and will conclude on March 1.
