In a setback for former Tamil Nadu chief minister E K Palaniswami, the Madras High Court on Wednesday gave the go ahead for the Election Commission to proceed with petitions on intra-party disputes in the AIADMK and challenging the legitimacy of the present leadership.

Stung by actor Nayanthara using a 3-second clip from the movie ‘Naanum Rowdy Dhaan’ without a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the film’s producer Dhanush, the latter has moved the Madras High Court against the ‘Lady Superstar’, her husband and filmmaker Vignesh Sivan, and a subsidiary of Netflix.
A similar Bill was passed by the previous AIADMK government in 2017, but failed to obtain the President’s assent.
The Madurai bench of the Madras high court represented by Justices M Duraiswamy and K Murali Shankar directed the state government to file a counter affidavit by September 30.
The court also warned veterinarians of severe action like contempt of court and departmental action if they issue false certificates.
The court on its part on Wednesday ordered, Council and IRDAI as necessary parties to this case, in addition to making the Additional Chief Secretary, Transport Department, Chennai, and the Joint Transport Commissioner (R), Chennai as Respondents.
A bench of Chief Justice Sanjib Banerjee and Justice P.D. Audikesavalu said: "EWS quota is impermissible till the same is approved by the Supreme Court of India."
