The Madras High Court on Tuesday restrained Music Academy from conferring the award, instituted after legendary carnatic singer M S Subbulakshmi, on renowned vocalist T M Krishna.
Quashing the murder case against the woman, Justice G Jayachandran of the Madras High Court held that the right to private defence is available not only to a victim of sexual assault but also to those who rescue her.
Reverting the cases to the special court for cases under the Prevention of Corruption Act (PCA), Justice N Anand Venkatesh said, “As prima facie materials are available to frame charges, the special court shall proceed to frame charges, and thereafter proceed in accordance with law.”

Soundararajan had moved the high court in 2018 to quash the defamation case. However even after the case was listed for hearing four different times, she was not represented by anyone. Complainant Karthikeyan also remained absent.
Thondan Subramani cited these extensions in his PIL, seeking that the court cease the operations of the Commission and prevent the huge loss of money for the state government.
