BJP MP Nishikant Dubey Tuesday wrote to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, requesting him to initiate 'Privilege Proceedings' against Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi for "shamelessly" distorting historical and substantive facts and attempting to lower the prestige of our Republic.
The Congress leader asserted that the question is not how efficiently the House is run but how much of India's voice is being allowed to be heard in this House.
The Opposition had proposed the name of Mr K Suresh of the Congress Party, but Mr Birla was declared elected by a voice vote.
The Opposition has agreed to support Om Birla for Speaker but they have demanded Deputy Speaker's post in return.

The stormy session began with suspension of 12 Opposition members in the Rajya Sabha for the whole session.
Om Birla's remarks came during the Second Working Session of the G20 Parliamentary Speakers’ Summit (P20), on the theme "Rebooting Economic Growth in terms of Social and Environmental Sustainability" held in Rome, Italy on Friday.
Speaking on the occasion, Birla said that every country has its own sovereignty which other countries should respect.
Birla assured the children that as a guardian, he would always stand with them.
Deputy Chairman, Rajya Sabha Harivansh, presiding officers of legislative bodies of India, secretaries-general of Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha Utpal Kumar Singh and Dr P P K Ramacharyulu were also present.
