The Congress candidate has also been raising the death of Ankita Bhandari allegedly by Pulkit Arya, son of a BJP leader and a resort owner, and his two associates, as a major poll issue.

A moderate turnout of 57% was recorded in the by-elections held on October 21. It seems the Congress has turned to the DMK in desperation to help out. Six seats are falling vacant from Tamil Nadu in April next year and the Congress has asked M K Stalin to spare one for the former PM.
