The decision comes following a letter from the state government to the Eastern Railway yesterday seeking discussions on operating a few pairs of suburban trains in the morning and afternoon hours for the general commuters maintaining Covid protocols.
Internal survey's first phase report was submitted while the second is underway
A limited number of ferry services from Chinsurah, Chandannagar, Serampore and Uttarpara to Kolkata have been allowed but with restrictions. A limited number of passengers is allowed, which is paving the way for jostling with one another to board the ferry.
Beelines of commuters at bus stops, crowds of passengers jostling to get into buses letting go the norms of social distancing, was a common sight. The state operated around 1200 buses with services starting as early as 5 a.m. In govt buses, social distancing was seen being maintained, however, in several private buses passengers more than the seating capacity were seen.
