The Tamil Nadu State Election Commission has announced that DMK has won or is in lead in 138 of the 140 district panchayat union seats with the AIADMK winning just 2 seats. In the panchayat union ward member seats, DMK has won or is leading in 1,009 seats while the AIADMK has only 218 out of the 1,381 seats.
Election commission sources said that the commission has been engaged in preliminary discussions on the conduct of elections with the district administrations.
The newly constituted BJP's 17-member committee will be focusing on the electoral list and will sort out the possible seats and plan the work accordingly.
The DMK is also trying to consolidate its hold over the Muslims and the Dalits through its alliance with the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) as part of its efforts to score a huge win in the local body elections
The BJP is leading in 67 of the 81 municipalities, with the Congress gaining in two and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) with one seat.
In the final results announced on Sunday by the State Election Commission (SEC), Congress won majority of seats by winning 331 of 353 zila parishad seats and 2351 of 2899 panchayat samitis seats.
