The Thiruvananthapuram Additional District and Sessions Court VI on Tuesday awarded rigorous life imprisonment to Poovachal native Priyaranjan for the murder of a class 10 student.
The Kollam Additional Sessions Court on Monday awarded life imprisonment to two accused in the dowry death case of a 28-year-old woman at Pooyapally in Oyoor, Kerala’s Kollam district.
The sixth accused in the heinous crime that took place in September last year, a minor, is being tried separately in a juvenile court.
The incident occurred at Jaam Gate, a picnic spot near Mhow Cantonment in Indore district, between 2 and 3 am on September 11, 2024.
Among those sentenced to life, Prabhakaran was a former local secretary of the CPI-M and former president of the Edakkad panchayat, while KV Padmanabhan and Manombeth Radhakrishnan were CPI-M local committee members.
Beant Singh and 16 others were killed in an explosion outside the Civil Secretariat in Chandigarh on August 31, 1995.
The apex court had in March upheld the life imprisonment of P Rajagopal for murdering employee, Prince Shantakumar, in October 2001 to marry his wife on the advice of an astrologer.
Jamnagar District and Sessions Court Judge DM Vyas also awarded similar penalty to police constable Pravinsinh Jhala.
Salla became the first person to be put under the "national no fly list", and was also the first to be booked under the stringent Anti Hijacking Act, which had replaced a vintage law of 1982. The court of special NIA judge K M Dave said the fine amount submitted by the convict, businessman Birju Salla, will be distributed among the crew members and passengers on board the affected plane.
On 26 April, the court had pronounced 40-year-old Sai guilty of rape of a girl in 2013.
