The DGP visited Kulgam, Handwara and Kupwara where he reviewed the security situation with senior police, CRPF and Army officers.
Police said the terrorists involved in the firing have been trapped and an operation has been started by the police and security forces.
The Army officials said that the attack took place when troops were doing a sanitisation drill in the general area of Shamsipura at Khanabal in Kulgam.
Police sources said the terrorists hurled a grenade at the police station Dhamhal Hanjpora which missed the target and exploded on the roadside resulting in injury to three civilians.

Police said five protesters sustained injuries in these clashes. "They have been shifted to a hospital for treatment," a police officer said.
Based on credible input, a joint team of Srinagar and Ganderbal Police arrested the active militant of LeT, Zubair Shabir Bhat, from Kangan area of Ganderbal, said a police spokesman.
"As the cordon around the hiding militants was tightened, they fired at the security forces triggering the gunfight. Two of the slain militants were Pakistanis while the third was a local," informed the police sources.
