The incident came close on the heels of the killing of two non-tribals during an anti-CAA protest in Ichamati and the subsequent arrest of two activists of the Khasi Students Union (KSU).
The case pertains to two employees in limestone quarries who were stoned to death on March 27 and their bodies were recovered in Ichamati and Dalda, respectively.
As a matter of fact, CAA does not apply to the tribal areas of Assam, Meghalaya, Mizoram and Tripura as included in the Sixth Schedule, and the area covered under the inner line notified under the Bengal Eastern Frontier Regulation, 1873.
The North East Students' Organisation (NESO), backed by other organisations and political parties, will observe the shutdown till 4 pm against the bill that was passed in the Lok Sabha.
