Former state PWD minister and senior CPI-M leader and G Sudhakaran and former civil supplies minister and senior CPI leader C Divakaran participated in the event held at the Congress headquarters in Thiruvananthapuram.
Amid reports of change of leadership in the Kerala Congress, a section of the party leaders have come out in support of the continuance K Sudhakaran as chief of the state unit of the party.
He said the Congress must look beyond its committed voter base for the 2026 Kerala assembly elections. “If they fail to do that, the party would find itself in the opposition for a third consecutive term,” Tharoor warned.
In a sharp editorial on Monday, Veekshanam daily, the Congress party’s mouthpiece in Kerala, took an indirect swipe at party MP Shashi Tharoor for his praise of the state’s startup sector.
Sudhakaran said that a real correction process should be initiated and it should be started from Pinarayi Vijayan.
Sudheeran said when the Pinarayi Vijayan Government came to power, there were only 29 bars in the state, now there are over 920.
Senior Congress leader K Muraleedharan said the Kerala unit of the party had urged the All India Congress Committee (AICC) leadership not to participate in the ceremony.
They are peeved with the government decision to initiate vigilance probe against Opposition leader.
The new party is expected to get the support from various Christian churches and will be a part of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA).
