The ban order was signed by the Chief Election Commissioner and two fellow Election Commissioners, which would come into force from 5 pm on Saturday.
Earlier on Friday, the Election Commission had directed micro-blogging website Twitter to remove the communal statements made by Kapil Mishra.
Kapil Mishra had tweeted describing the Shaheen Bagh protests as 'mini Pakistans' and compared the February 8 Delhi polls with a 'competition between India and Pakistan'.
Earlier in a tweet, Mishra said, “On February 8, there will be a contest between India and Pakistan on the roads in Delhi.”
