The Ministry of External Affairs Saturday announced that the Kailash Manasarovar Yatra for the current year will commence between June and August.
Pilgrims can now drive-in to cover more than 80 kilometers road between Dharchula and Lipulekh Paas in few hours which earlier was an arduous 8-9 days trek for them.
Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu has said that his government will take up the issue of commencing of Kailash Mansarovar Yatra from Kinnaur district through Shipki-La with the Union Government.
The two sides also decided to take appropriate measures to further promote and facilitate people-to-people exchanges, including media and think-tank interactions.
Following the 23rd meeting of the Special Representatives, India and China reaffirmed their commitment to promote the resumption of Kailash Mansarovar Yatra, cross-border river cooperation and Nathula border trade.
A total of 6,922 people, stuck outside the state, have registered themselves with the government's portal to return to their homes. No COVID-19 case has been reported in Sikkim so far.
'With the completion of this road link, the yatra could be completed in one week compared to 2-3 weeks it took earlier,' he said.
The Ministry of External Affairs organises the yatra from June-September each year through two different routes, Lipulekh Pass (Uttarakhand) and Nathu La Pass (Sikkim).
Addressing a gathering on the occasion, he thanked China for promoting people to people exchange through its support of this yatra.
From Gangtok, the route passes through scenic places like Hangu Lake and the vast landscape of the Tibetan plateau.
