The Union Government on Wednesday appointed Senior Advocate R Venkataramani as the new Attorney General for India. The Senior Advocate has been appointed for a period of three years and will succeed K K Venugopal whose term is set to come to an end on 30th September.
A Bench headed by Chief Justice Dipak Misra gave one more week to the remaining 20 states and 5 UTs to comply with its order, warning them that any default would be viewed sternly.
"To criticise, attack and destroy a system is quite easy (but) very difficult and challenging to transform it into a performing one. For this one has to transcend one's personal ambitions or grievances", the Chief Justice said.
