On the Budgam seat, Omar will face seven other candidates, including that of the Jamaat-e-Islami which is contesting the election after a gap of 37 years. Not a single candidate withdrew his papers from the Ganderbal constituency.

National Conference vice-president Omar Abdullah on Thursday became the first political leader in Jammu and Kashmir to file his nomination from two constituencies for the upcoming assembly election.
A large number of NC leaders and activists accompanied Omar who is likely to contest the assembly election also from another seat in the Budgam district, reports said.
He stated that prior to this historic move, the region was plagued by lack of basic infrastructure, including electricity, roads, water connections, and housing for the poor.
Earlier in the day, the BJP released its third list of 29 candidates for the second and third phases of elections. The list includes 10 candidates for the second phase and 19 for the third phase. So far, the BJP has announced the names of 45 candidates in three lists.
Taking a U-turn on his vow of not contesting the assembly elections until Jammu and Kashmir was restored to full statehood, National Conference leader Omar Abdullah on Tuesday announced his candidature from traditional Ganderbal constituency for the upcoming elections.
