As the Haryana Assembly election draws near, the ruling BJP, facing anti-incumbency after a decade in power, is gearing up for a challenging battle.
In a major jolt to the BJP, Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) of Punjab, BJP’s long-standing ally, on Monday decided to stay away from the Delhi Assembly election rather than contesting with BJP.
However, Deputy Chief Minister Dushyant Chautala has claimed that he is not aware of the development and said that he will speak to Ram Kumar Gautam.
The Cabinet, which met under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar, decided to revise the ministers' HRA from Rs 50,000 to Rs 80,000 plus Rs 20,000 to cover electricity and water charges.
The day-long visit of Khattar along with his deputy Dushyant Chautala is crucial ahead of the state Assembly session beginning from Monday.
Manohar Lal Khattar said that the Haryana Cabinet will be expanded after the special session of the state assembly, likely next week.
Dushyant's father Ajay Chautala, who was lodged in Delhi's Tihar Jail after his conviction in a teachers recruitment scam, was granted furlough for two weeks after the BJP and JJP sealed a deal to form a coalition government in Haryana.
Earlier on Saturday, Congress leader Bhupinder Singh Hooda had targeted the JJP for forming an alliance with the BJP saying that the 'public has now seen their real face'.
'The JJP betrayed the voters of the state. All those who voted for the JJP are feeling cheated today after it extended the support to the BJP,' she said.
Om Prakash Chautala and Ajay, the father son duo was jailed in 2013 as they were convicted in JBT teachers’ recruitment scam along with 53 others.
