Jay Shah, Chairman of the International Cricket Council (ICC), is set to be felicitated by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on the sidelines of its Special General Meeting (SGM), scheduled to be held in its headquarters on Sunday.
Highlighting his priority of cricket’s continued involvement in the Olympic movement, new International Cricket Council (ICC) chairman Jay Shah, on Thursday, held a meeting with Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games Organising Committee (OCOG) CEO Cindy Hook.
Shah described his visit as “productive and inspiring”, and acknowledged the long road ahead.
The 36-year old succeeds Greg Barclay to become the youngest member of the apex board.
Her post, although framed as a congratulatory message, appeared to be laced with a sharp undertone as she commented on Jay Shah's rise to the position of ICC chairman.
From starting as a young administrator in Gujarat to becoming one of the most influential figures in global cricket, Jay Shah has played a pivotal role in the evolution of the sport, in India and at the global level.
“I am humbled by the nomination as the Chair of the International Cricket Council," Shah said in a statement.
Jay Shah is one of the most powerful people in cricket and his tenure as BCCI General Secretary Jay Shah has seen India further establish their grip as the most powerful board in the sport.
Gaekwad, 71, has been undergoing treatment at King's College Hospital in London since the last year.
