In a post on X, Kashmir Zone Police said, "Two terrorists have been neutralised in the Sopore encounter. Identification and affiliation is being ascertained. Incriminating materials, arms and ammunition recovered. Further details shall follow."
Five nominated members of the legislative assembly (MLAs) will play a key role in the government formation in Jammu and Kashmir in case a hung assembly emerges after counting of votes on 8 October.
The assembly elections in J&K held after a gap of ten years witnessed polling in three phases. The first phase recorded 57.31% polling, while 61.38% of votes were cast in the second phase.
The Indian Army launched a search operation in Jammu and Kashmir's Reasi on Monday morning following the attack on a bus coming from Shiv Khori, in which ten pilgrims were killed on Sunday evening.
According to officials, Sepoy Ajay Kumar was found dead near SAIL Chersoo in Awantipura after gunshots were heard at around 1:55 am.
The accused has been identified as Riaz Ahmed alias Hazari, a resident of Kishtwar district of Jammu and Kashmir.
One of the two cases was registered by NIA's Delhi branch in 2021, and the other was lodged by the anti-terror agency's Jammu branch in 2022.
