The gunfight ensued after terrorists fired at the security forces who were carrying out a search and cordon operation in the area.
The woman Nigeena Bano, who was critically wounded in the shooting, was immediately taken to a nearby hospital but was declared brought dead.
Additional forces were rushed to the area to flush out the militants from the orchard area, police sources said.
Defence Ministry spokesman Colonel Rajesh Kalia said the militants were killed in an encounter in Nowgam, on the outskirts of Srinagar city.
Mobile Internet services have been suspended in Sopore and adjoining areas, and restrictions imposed in the town to maintain law and order.

The 25-year-old woman is said to be the maternal cousin of terrorist commander Zeenat-ul-Islam who was killed along with his associate in an encounter at Katpora in Kulgam last month.
This is her second visit to a terrorist's family in the past one week during which she criticised the police and security forces.
