Gen Anjum commanded a brigade in Kurram Agency, led Frontier Corps (North) in Balochistan and remained commandant of Command and Staff College Quetta before becoming corps commander Karachi in December 2020.
Sethi said that the announcement about Lt Gen Faiz Hameed's posting as Peshawar Corps Commander and General Nadeem Anjum's appointment as the new DG ISI should have come from the Prime Minister house because as per usual, Prime Minister appoints the DG ISI.
The outgoing ISI chief had played a crucial part in the Doha talks that led to the American departure from Afghanistan and more recently in meeting Taliban hardliners to cobble together a government in Kabul.
Earlier, the ISI chief visited Afghanistan recently where he met the Afghan leadership in Kabul and discussed different issues. Days after the visit, the Taliban announced their interim government.
