In a groundbreaking achievement for maritime exploration, Lieutenant Commander Dilna K and Lieutenant Commander Roopa A, aboard the INSV Tarini, successfully passed through Point Nemo at 0030 hours (IST) today. The pair is currently sailing from Lyttelton, New Zealand, to Port Stanley, Falkland Islands, as part of the third leg of Navika Sagar Parikrama II.
The Indian Naval Sailing Vessel (INSV) Tarini set sail from Lyttelton Port, New Zealand today, marking the beginning of the third and longest leg of its historic circumnavigation journey. The vessel is now en route to Port Stanley in the Falkland Islands, covering a staggering distance of approximately 5,600 nautical miles (about 10,400 kilometers). This leg of the expedition will also take Tarini to its southernmost point, approximately 56 degrees South.
Two Indian Navy women officers – Lt Cdr Roopa A and Lt Cdr Dilna K would be embarking on the extraordinary expedition of circumnavigating the globe - Navika Sagar Parikrama II onboard INSV Tarini very shortly.
The officers recently completed a circumnavigation of the globe, christened ‘Navika Sagar Parikrama’, in 254 days of which 199 were spent on the sea.
