Delhi Prisons has three complexes, one at Tihar being one of the largest prison complexes in the world comprising nine central prisons; and second is Central Prison at Rohini Prison Complex; and third one is Mandoli Prison Complex having six Central Jails.
"The gunmen were said to have arrived the centre heavily armed with sophisticated weapons and after a fierce encounter with officers on guard, gained entrance into the yard using dynamite to blast the wall," said Anjorin.
After inaugurating the third ‘jail-radio’ of the state in the Central Jail, Ambala, Arora said though a jail has a restricted environment but with the introduction of radio, its inmates will be interacting with the outside world.
The ‘Har Haath Ko Kaam’ scheme, launched in 2017 to enhance skills of jail inmates, had resulted in the department earning Rs 4.68 crore in 2019-20, Rs 3.58 crore in 2018-19 and Rs 3.24 crore in 2017-18.
Two guards were taken hostage during the hours-long clashes, which were brought under control at around midday.
However, no official from the Unnao district jail, where the incident happened, was mentioned in the transfer list.
