The government has announced the ‘National Creators Award’ to recognise new-age influencers and creators and celebrate India’s digital creator economy.
These guidelines are an important extension to the Guidelines for Prevention of Misleading Advertisements and Endorsements for Misleading Advertisements, 2022 released on 9 June 2022, and in lieu of the "Endorsement Know-hows!" guide booklet released on 20 January 2023.
The guidelines aim to ensure that individuals do not mislead their audiences when endorsing products or services and that they are in compliance with the Consumer Protection Act.
"Leave this world with an influence that'll be remembered for good even after you are gone," actress Sada said.
A self-regulatory body of advertisers has also come out with operating guidelines for such 'influencers'.
As per a report, the database contained 49 million records of several high-profile influencers, including prominent food bloggers, celebrities and other social media influencers.
