Sindhu, will now face world No. 3 Tai Tzu Ying of Chinese Taipei, who is also the defending Indonesia Open champion, in round two.
Prannoy, the only Indian still alive in the BWF Super 1000 event, beat Gemke 21-14, 21-12, to set up a semifinal clash against China's Zhao Junpeng, who beat Hong Kong shuttler Cheuk Yiu Lee in his final-eight clash.
World championships silver medallist Srikanth, 11th in the badminton rankings, lost to 41st-ranked Brice Leverdez of France 21-23, 10-21 in 42 minutes at the Istora Stadium.
Seeded fourth, Sindhu will open her women's singles campaign against unseeded Chinese Han Yue, whom she easily overcame in the first round of Japan Open.
Sindhi lost 15-21, 16-21 in less than an hour to suffer her fifth defeat to Yamaguchi. This was the 15th meeting between the two players and Sindhu still holds a 10-5 head to head lead over the Japanese shuttler.
Sindhu had stormed her way into the finals and it was expected that she might win her first title this season. However, she failed to cross the final hurdle.
Notably, this will be PV Sindhu's first final of 2019 and she has been absolutely convincing in this tournament winning matches with relative ease.
Although her opponent Nozomi Okukara was seeded third for the competition and started as favourites to win the match, she was given absolutely no window to make a comeback.
Fifth-seed Sindhu, who is eyeing her first title of the season, defeated Blichfeldt 21-14, 17-21, 21- 11 in a match that lasted for 62 minutes.
